Weekly Update 3/19/12

This week in kindergarten:
*  We are starting a new theme in our reading program:  The Mighty Sun.  We will learn about the letter and sound for J /j/.  Our vocab words are glowing, heat & source.  Our sight words are with & dog.  Our comprehension strategy for the next 2 weeks is "using visuals."
*  In math we will start Topic 13 - Sorting, classifying, counting and categorizing data.
*  Coming home in folders today - field trip permission form!  Please look over all of the papers and sign and return by this Friday.  On Thursday, March 29th we will be taking a field trip to Kaleidoscope Museum at Crown Center.  We will travel by bus.  Both AM and PM classes will come to school at the same time.  Kindergarten times will be different on this day!  ALL kindergarteners will come to school at 9:45 and will be dismissed at 12:50.   Kaleidoscope has strict rules that only allow 1 parent volunteer for every 6 students.  Therefore, we will do a random drawing for parent volunteers.  If you are interested in joining us on this field trip - please return the appropriate form (that you will find in the field trip packet).  We will put all of the returned forms is a bag and draw 4 volunteers from the AM class and 4 from the PM class.
When you are filling out the Child Transportation Form - I need to know how your child will be dismissed.  For example:  as a walker, car rider, bus rider or JCPRD.  Please specify one of these methods of transportation for the day of our field trip.  Car loop will be at the front of the school on this day.
*  3rd quarter report cards will come home in folders next Monday.
*  Mrs. Scherrer (our student teacher) is looking to nanny this summer.  If you are still looking for summer child care - you can contact her at 913-579-8153 or heather.scherrer@yahoo.com
* The 2012 Prairie Ridge Parent Survey is open! The school’s Site Council worked to shorten the length of the survey, so it will only take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Please note, surveys are set up by grade level, so if you have more than one student at PRE, we ask you complete one per child. This will allow you to provide specific feedback for each of your children. The survey closes on March 26th. The school uses the survey information as a part of our continuous improvement process, and your feedback is valuable to us! Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete the survey(s).Click this link to complete the survey for kindergarten.
