Weekly Update

This week in kindergarten:
*  We start a new theme in our Rigby Reading program:  Where I Live.  Our comprehension strategy is "creating mental images."  We will focus on the letter and sound for Z /z/.  Our sight words are walk & too.  Our vocab words are march, country & past.
*  In math we begin Topic 16 - Analyzing, comparing and composing shapes.
*  Our ETC day is this Friday.  The students will rotate through 7 stations learning about the earth and our environment.  Thank you for all of the donations that have been sent in!
*  Mrs. Scherrer is starting to wind down her student teaching.  :(  We will be doing more co-teaching this week and next week she will be observing in several classrooms throughout our building.  Next Thursday, 4/26 will be her last day with us.  She has been an amazing addition to our classroom and we are sad to see her go.  You will notice in your child's homework this week that the writing assignment is to make Mrs. Scherrer a thank you / goodbye card.  Just send the card in with your child and I will hold on to them until next week.  We will have a small good bye snack and give her our cards at that time.
*  We are in the last week of incubation for our chicks.  They are due to hatch next Tuesday.  We should start hearing some "peeping" and seeing some cracks (pipping) as they get ready to hatch - we will probably observe this on Monday and Tuesday.
*  I have sent home a note in folders today with an option for extra math practice.  Your child has been assigned their own code.  They can log on to the Xtra Math website and practice their addition facts.  This is something extra we have found that will help with adding and subtracting fluently.  Let me know if you have any questions.
*  There is no school next Friday 4/27.
*  The district has changed the last day of school for students due to the mild winter and that fact that we did not use any of our snow days.  The last day for kindergarten is Monday, May 21st.
