This week in kindergarten:
* Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you for an awesome Teacher Appreciation Week. I loved all of the cards and snacks etc! What a fun week! :)
* We focus on the vowel Ee. Our theme in our reading program is "What Will it Be?" Our sight words are all & ball. Vocab words are high, height & change. Our comprehension strategy is "self monitoring."
* In math we are working on composing numbers 11-19.
* AM class only (PM please disregard) - AM class will be present on Friday for our "Opening Ceremonies" for field day. There is a note in your child's folder today regarding the carrying of the Olympic Torch this Friday. If your child is interested in being selected to carry the torch - please have them complete this sheet and return to school TOMORROW!
* ALL JCPRD students - if your child will attend JCPRD on Friday - they will need to bring a sack lunch. The cafeteria is not serving lunch on this day.
* Important notes regarding field day on Friday for everyone:
- please have your child wear tennis shoes on Friday.
- please have your child bring a water bottle and a healthy snack. The snack should be something they can handle on their own. Examples of good Field Day snacks are: bag of cheerios, granola bar, crackers, bag of grapes etc. We will place all of the snacks in a tub and take them with us as we rotate through field day. So please make sure your child's name is on their snack and on their water bottle. Thank you!!
- Please put sun screen on your child prior to coming to school. It would take me the whole day to sunscreen all of the kids and we would miss field day all together. :) We don't want that!! Thank you so much for your help!!!!!
- If your child would like to wear the colors of our flag - our flag is Australia which is red, white and blue.
* I have put together Summer packets for your child to work on during summer break. This is a summer homework packet. These will probably come home in folders on Wednesday. If your child completes the packet they may bring it by my classroom when they return in August for a treat/prize.
Also, our math program provides a Step Up section to prepare the kiddos for 1st grade. We will not have time to complete this in school. I will also be sending home all of the Step Up math papers if you would like to work on those over the summer. These are just extra resources for you to use during the time the students will not be in school. The most important thing for your child to do this summer is to read!!! I would say block out 20 minutes a day just for reading. Reading to themselves (or you) and you reading to them. A combination of both is good! Students typically drop a reading level over the summer - try not to let that happen!! Remember to log all of your reading minutes on the scholastic summer reading website to help our school reach our reading goal for the summer. I will be logging my reading minutes as well. :)
* Our plans for this week:
T - Memory Day (we will be making a list of our best kindergarten moments.
W - Movie Day - we will finish Charlotte's Web tomorrow and watch the movie on Wednesday
Th - Clean up / Read and relax day!
F - Field Day
