Ms. Brown will be in our classroom on Tuesday to read an age appropriate story for Red Ribbon Week.  In kindergarten we talk about ways to keep our bodies healthy and stay safe.

*During our reading time this week we will learn about the setting of a story (where the story takes place).  We will also talk about adjectives or "describing words."  We will be reading many fun Halloween books!
In reading groups we will be focusing on "fix up strategies."  These are strategies to help us when we get stuck on a word.  These strategies will help us to become better readers.  You will see reading group books coming home soon.  They will come home in a plastic bag.  Have your child show off their amazing reading skills and then return the book within 2 school days.  Thank you!
*In math we will finish Topic 4.  This has been a tough topic as we understand the concept of 2 more and 2 fewer.  They are doing great!!
* We will be phasing out our Dramatic Play time this week.  Social Studies and science will replace this time.  We will continue to use the dramatic play centers when we have indoor recess.  This week we will talk about community helpers.  The firefighters will come for a visit on Tuesday!
*  We will visit with our 4th grade buddies on Tuesday afternoon.
*  Our color word this week is BLACK.  Wear something black on Wednesday if you have it!
*  We will have a substitute teacher for the first time this year on Tuesday.  Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Arbaugh and I are attending the Dr. Jean teacher conference and are excited to learn some fun teaching ideas for kindergarten!  Mrs. Fox will be our guest teacher.  She did her student teaching in our building in first grade a couple of years ago.  She subs at PRE quite a bit and knows the building and staff very well.  I spoke with the children about my expectations regarding behaviors with a substitute teacher this morning.  :)
*  Friday is our Fall / Halloween party here at school!  Please send your child's costume to school in a bag labeled with their name.  It would be a good idea to label all parts of the costume.  Please keep any weapons (that might go along with the costume) and make-up at home.  We will change into our costumes about 2:15.  Boys will change in one room and girls in another.
The all school costume parade will be held at 2:45 (hopefully outside).  Following the parade we will have our class party.  You are welcome to join us!
Happy Halloween!!
