This week in kindergarten:
* We will introduce the letter Hh. We learn the sound for H and practice writing capital and lower case Hh. We will also begin talking about words. How letters make up a word. We will learn about vowels and begin "stretching out" words. Listening for the beginning, middle and ending sounds. For example: hat - we will isolate each sound /h/ /a/ /t/
* Our vocabulary words this week are learn, enter & order. Our sight words are I & this.
* We are talking a lot about rhyming words and what makes words rhyme.
* Last week we began discussing "good fit" books. The students each have their own book box in the classroom. They were able to "book shop" last week and choose 8 books for their book box. These are the books they will read when we do our Read to Self time. They know that they should have at least 2 "good fit" books in their box. We learned the IPICK chant. I have a You Tube video of the IPICK chant on the left side of the blog. The kiddos will probably enjoy watching it at home and showing you the moves!
* We started our first math EnVision lesson today. You will find a topic overview in their daily folder today. It includes a game that is part of their homework Tuesday night. We will work on counting and cardinality as well as writing/forming our numbers 1-5.
* Wednesday will be GREEN day. We will learn how to spell and read the color word green. If your child has something green in their closet - have them wear it on Wednesday.
* There is a LOT to go through in daily folders today! Homework begins this week. You will find your child's homework in the folder. Please have them take their time and work on a little bit each day. They may turn the homework in whenever they finish it. I told them I would like to have it back by next Monday, however, if they finish early they can send it in early.
You will also find our first reading log of the year. All of Prairie Ridge will be working on this reading challenge. I would love to have 100% participation from our class! Just keep track of the minutes you are reading with your child. A good rule of thumb is to read a minimum of 20 minutes every day (outside of school). Once you have marked off 500 minutes - send the log back to school. I will check these off and send it back so you may begin working on the next 500 minutes.
* Pictures are coming home today. If you ordered pictures please check your child's backpack for their packet.
* The pictures posted below are from our practice of our 2nd Daily Five Center - Read to Someone. This week we are learning the 3rd of the Daily Five - Listen to Reading.
* I know I have thrown a lot at you in this update. Please let me know if you have ANY questions!!! :)
