This week in kindergarten:
* We begin a new theme in our Rigby Reading program: Does it Go Fast or Slow? We continue to talk about the soft sound for the letter G /j/. We are also learning about the "sh" blend.
Our comprehension strategy for the next 2 weeks is synthesize. This is a big word! I am sending home a brief overview of this strategy in folders today. We are learning that we take the many pieces of information from a story/text to come up with one big idea.
Our vocab words this week are move, distance & speed. Our sight words are do & big.
We have finished all of the color words. We will celebrate with "rainbow day" on Wednesday. We will review all of the color words. Wear as many different colors on Wednesday as you can! :)
* In math we will finish Topic 7 and begin Topic 8 - Understanding Subtraction.
* For the next 2 weeks we will be looking at different holiday celebrations around the world. We will learn a little about each country and find it on a world map. Our first country is India and their biggest holiday celebration is Diwali. This holiday is also known as the Festival of Lights. I will update the blog throughout the week to let you know which countries/holidays we are talking about in class.
* We will meet with our 4th grade buddies this Friday.
* Scholastic book orders our due this Friday. You can order from Scholastic. Our class code is GMMD6. If your order is a gift and you would like for me to hold them back for you to pick up - just send me an email. Otherwise I will send them home with your child.
