By majority vote we named our classroom elf Michael. We will be looking for Michael every day and watching for special notes from him. We will write letters and make sure we are showing him our best behavior in class!
We began our study of countries / holidays today. We learned about the globe and the world map. We found 7 continents and found where we live on the map. Our destination itinerary for this week is:
Monday - India / Diwali (Festival of Lights)
Tuesday - Hawaii / Lei Day
Wednesday - Israel / Hanukah
Thursday - Japan / Children's Day
Friday - The Netherlands / St. Nicholas Eve

* In math we will begin Topic 8 - Understanding Subtraction.
* In reading we will work on the comprehension strategy: to synthesize (when we put many small ideas together to come up with one big "main idea").
* We met with our 4th grade buddies today!
