* We will work on a new comprehension strategy - Fix Up Strategies. I encouraged your children to read their Halloween Counting book (that is coming home) to you and explain fix up strategies. Hint: when you come to a word you don't know - use the picture clues, stretch out the sounds in the word and ask yourself if it makes sense.
Reading groups are starting this week. I will not begin book checkout until next week.
Our color word this week is BLACK. If you have something black - wear it on Wednesday. We will have a snack provided for us on Wednesday.
* In math we will finish Topic 4: comparing numbers to 10. We continue to work on the tough concept of 1 and 2 fewer using 10 frames and counters.
* Our Halloween Party is the Thursday. The school parade begins at 2:45. You are welcome to come to school to see the parade! The party begins directly following the parade in our classroom.

The Students may bring their costumes to school in a bag clearly labeled with their name. We will change into costumes at 2:30. I would love to have a couple of parents join us at that time to help with costumes. Let me know if you are able to help!
Please keep any costume weapons, make-up and hair color at home. Let me know if you have any questions!
* This will be our last week for "towel time." I did tell them that they may leave their towels at school as we may still have towel time on Fridays as our schedule allows. I will begin introducing Math Stations next week in place of towel time. This is a time when the students will be working with a partner with math manipulatives and math games. It will also be a time for small group instruction in math.
* There is no school this Friday, 10/30 due to teacher in-service.
* As the weather is getting cooler - please know that we will continue to go outside for recess unless the wind temperature is below 20. Our morning recess is at 9:45 and can be quite chilly. Have your child bring a jacket to school. They should begin practicing self help skills such as zipping and buttoning at home. I always have them try to zip by themselves first and then offer assistance.
