This week in kindergarten:
* We will travel to the following countries (in our Celebration Around the World unit): Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Kenya and Sweden.
* In the Journeys ELA program that we are piloting - our theme is based around seasons and weather. We are reading books and having discussions based on this theme. We are also focusing on ending sounds in words, blending sounds together, sight words and vocabulary.
* We will finish Topic 8 in math - Understanding Subtraction.
* Mrs. Montgomery will be in our classroom on Friday for a guidance lesson.
* Next week - kindergarten is in school Monday - Wednesday. There is no school Thursday or Friday.
Our Winter Party will be next Wednesday, 12/14, at 3:00. We will have a "Mug Exchange." Please have your child pick out a mug to bring as a gift. They should wrap it or put it in a gift bag. You do not need to write a name on the mug or the wrapping. I will have them draw numbers to pick the mugs (think white elephant gift exchange style). We will enjoy hot chocolate in our new mugs and watch a Christmas movie. I am going to let the students wear their jammies to school that day (I haven't told them yet).
Also, next week we will be reading many different versions of The Gingerbread Man. We will go on a Gingerbread Man hunt on Wednesday ending with cookies. This will be a surprise - so don't tell them. :) I am looking for someone to bring in Gingerbread cookies on Wednesday (w/o your child knowing). Price Chopper sells the best Gingerbread cookies every year in their bakery department. If you would be willing to buy these or make some for us - please let me know!
