weekly update 4/4/11

This week in kindergarten:
*  We will begin a new theme in reading:  Many Friends!  Our comprehension strategy for the nest 2 weeks is using fix up strategies / decoding.
*  We will focus on the letter and sound for Ww.  Our vocab words are proud, culture & treat.  Our sight words are play & not.
*  We are also working on digraphs - sh, ch, th & wh.
*  In math we will continue our work with nickels and counting by 5s.  We will also work on ABC patterns, dividing by sharing and ordering numbers.
*  We met with our 4th grade buddies last Friday to work on character and setting of a story.
* Our ETC coordinators are working very hard to bring us a fun Earth Day!  Please consider volunteering and/or sending in items that are needed.  You can go to the sign up sheet by clicking here.
Thank you so very much for all of your help!
*  Scholastic book orders are due this Wednesday.  If you would like to order - go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs.  Our password is GMMD6
*  Please read the note below regarding the PRE Harevesters community service project:

HARVESTER’S “GIVE LUNCH CHALLENGE” FOOD DRIVE

During the week of April 18, PRE students and staff will continue our tradition of giving by participating in the Harvester’s “Give Lunch Challenge.” The “Give Lunch Challenge” is an initiative by Harvesters to provide food that will be used for youth programs in the Kansas City area, including a homeless teen mobile food pantry. Each grade level will bring a specific “sack lunch” food item that will be packaged in brown paper sacks by students from the Mill Valley High School Community Service Class. Kindergarten is responsible for bringing fruit cups with self-opening tops. Check your favorite store for sales on fruit cups – stock up – and then bring them to school during the week of April 18th. Let’s help PRE reach the goal of providing 100 complete sack lunches
