This week in kindergarten:
* We have started our first theme in our reading program - Faces and Places at School. We will learn about the letter Mm this week - the sound it makes and how to write it correctly (lower case and upper case). With each theme comes a new comprehension strategy. This week is "making connections." We will also discuss 3 vocabulary words - principal, students & school. I will introduce 2 new sight words for the week - the & a.
* This week in math we will review basic shapes and begin learning how to write our numbers 0-10 correctly.
* During class today we talked about 3 ways to read a book. You might ask your child if they remember the 3 ways to read. (hint: read the pictures, read the words, retell the story)
* Each week I will introduce a new color word. We will learn how to read and spell the color words. This week the color word is red. Your child is welcome to wear something red on Wednesday (and I will too).
* We continue to work hard on our expectations at school. Please continue to have conversations with your child at home about what they know about our school rules. Ask them if they remember to raise their hand to speak, if they have a hard time keeping their hands and feet to themselves etc. These conversations at home help them to remember the rules and give them an opportunity to talk with you about things they might struggle with and you can help them with problem solving. Thank you so much for being such an important part of helping us to start off our year on the right foot!
* Later this week your child will bring home a brown bag they have decorated. They should place 3 small objects in the bag that tell a little bit about them. Ex: baseball, gymnastics ribbon, favorite book etc. We will share these on Friday. The bag may not come home until Thursday, however, I wanted to give you a heads up so you can be thinking about it! :)
* Parent Information Night is next Tuesday, August 30th at 6:00. This is for parents only.
