weekly update 8/29

This week in kindergarten:


• We are introducing the letter Ss. We are learning how to write the letter S as well as learning its sound.

• We continue with our theme: Faces and Places at School. Some things you might hear at home while reading with your child – the author’s job, the illustrator’s job, title, title page, repeating text and making text to self connections. WOW! We have learned a lot in 1 week!

• Our Rigby sight words this week are: and & is. Our vocab words are respect, behave and neighborhood.

• In math we continue to focus on proper formation when writing our numbers 0-10. We do a lot of “sky writing.” (using our finger to write the number in the air)

• Tomorrow is picture day at PRE! Order forms came home in folders last week.

• Our color word this week is YELLOW! Wednesday will be yellow day. If your child has something yellow to wear – save it for Wednesday. If not – don’t make a special trip to Target. It’s not mandatory (or a big deal). 

• Scholastic Book orders have come home. You can go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs to place an order. Use the code GMMD6 to order. All orders will be due by September 9th.

• Thank you so much for remembering to have your child go to the bathroom right before school starts. That is so helpful as we try to maintain an uninterrupted reading block at the beginning of our day!

• The afternoon class would like to welcome a new student! Lilly Wheeler joined our class last Friday. Welcome Lilly!

• Tomorrow evening will be Parent Information Night for kindergarten. 6:00 – I will try not to be too lengthy so you can be out of here about 6:30. This is an event for parents only. We will set up out in the pod. See you there!!
