Weekly Update 10/31

*  Pajama day tomorrow!!  :)  Both classes have been working very hard on following classroom / school expectations.  They have made it to the end of our Candy Land Board (incentive chart).  We will celebrate this success with a Jammie day tomorrow and a little extra recess before the weather turns rainy and colder on Wednesday.
*  We will continue with our theme in reading - Who I Am.  We will continue to work on vowels (particularly short A, long A and bossy E / silent E).  We will also introduce the digraph - sh this week.
Click below for some cute videos to watch as we learn the vowels:
AEIO Moo
Vowel Bat
Our vocab words are positive, special & bone.  Sight words are go & at.
*  Reading groups are well under way and you should see reading books coming home this week.  Please have your child read the book with you and send it back to school within 2 days.  Make sure they are using their "point and read" finger to track the text as they read.  Continue to use fix up strategies as they come to words they do not know.  Use picture clues, beginning sounds, and "stretch it out."
*  In math we continue with counting & cardinality.  We are practicing writing the numbers 8, 9 & 10.
*  Wednesday's color word is BROWN!  Have your child wear brown to school if they have it.
*  The school wide reading incentive program is over.  I am so proud of the kindergartners for all of the reading minutes they turned in.  Keep up the good reading habits!  A new incentive program will start soon in December.
*  Harvesters update:  WOW!!!  We have almost filled up the bucket in the classroom.  I am so impressed.  I think it was several months before I had to take the bucket to the bank last year.  I am sure I will have to make a run to the bank this weekend.  That is 2 weeks it took us!!!!  I will update you next Monday on our totals for Harvesters so far.
*  Scholastic Book orders are coming home today for the month of November.  Click here to go to our ordering page.  The class code is GMMD6.  Orders are due by next Monday, 11/7.
*  Our fall parties last Friday were a huge success.  Thank you so much to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who donated time and/or supplies to make these parties a hit with our kiddos!!!
