Weekly Update 4/7/14

This week in kindergarten:
*  We were very excited to candle the eggs this afternoon!

This video is similar to what we saw during this activity:

** We are reading books about animals and life cycles.  We also started a new chapter book during our read-a-loud time: Charlotte's Web. 
** In writing we continue to look at different types of writing.  Last week we discussed writing directions (how to writing).  They did a great job giving step by step directions for an activity of their choice.  This week we will learn more about informational writing as we write what we have learned about chickens.
** In math we will finish Topic 10 and move into Topic 11 - Decomposing Numbers 11-19.
**  Permission slips came home in folders last Friday for our upcoming field trip.  These are due on Wednesday.  Because Kaleidoscope only allows 4 parent volunteers per class - I will be drawing names of parent volunteers Wednesday afternoon (for those that indicated an interest in joining us).  I will post this on the blog by 4:00 pm. 
Our field trip is next Monday, April 14th. 
Please note: we will not return back to school in time for lunch in the cafeteria.  All students must bring a lunch from home.  We will eat in the classroom after we return to school.
I will also give the class a snack before we leave so they aren't too hungry before lunch.
**  We will have an ETC planning meeting tomorrow, 4/8, after school at 4:00.  We will be planning our final ETC event of the year.  The Earth Day event will be on April 22nd from 1-3:30.
**  This Friday we will meet with our 4th grade buddies.  We will also have a guidance lesson with Ms. Brown.
