weekly update 8/29

This week in kindergarten:
*  We will learn Habit 2 (7 Habits of Happy Kids)

*  Homework will begin this week.  Your child can work on the homework as time allows and return the sheet signed by the following Monday.  Here is the ABC video for Monday's assignment:

*  We are working on the first component of Daily 5: Read to Self.  We have been practicing and building our stamina.  We have learned that there are 3 ways to read a book. 
1.  Read the words.  2.  Read the pictures.  3.  Retell the story
We have learned about some very important parts to the books we read - the book cover, title page, author and illustrator.  
This week we will learn how letters make up words and that spaces go between words.  We will also do some work with syllables.
*  We are learning about place value during our math meeting time every day.  We add a straw each day to our calendar.  Tomorrow we will get to bundle a group of 10 because tomorrow  is the 10th day of school!  It's very exciting - Zero the Hero will come out to visit.  We will get to see Zero every 10th day of school.

*  Wednesday is yellow day in kindergarten.  Have your child wear something yellow if they have it.
*We have been earning blue paws in the cafeteria for good behavior.  We have collected 50 paws and will celebrate on Friday with a pajama day.  Your child may wear pajamas and slippers on Friday if they like.  Please send tennis shoes for recess time.  (no stuffed animals)
