Weekly Update 11/7

This week in kindergarten:
*  We are talking about visualization as we read.  We started reading a chapter book during our read aloud time.  We use this strategy when listening to chapter books as well as story books.  We are reading Ready Freddy - Thanksgiving Trouble.
We are also focusing on "stuck on a word" strategies during reading groups.  When we come to a word we do not know - we use the picture clues and the sounds we see in the word to help us figure it out.
Our color word this Wednesday is gray.  Have your child wear something gray if they have it.
*  We will learn about Election Day tomorrow.  We will read Duck for President and have our own election - voting between Duck or Farmer Brown for president.
*  As we continue our path with Growth Mindset we will discuss what it means to be resilient.
*  In math we will finish Topic 5 and move on to Topic 7 (understanding addition).  We skip Topic 6 and come back to it in February.
*  If you are interested in ordering books from the Scholastic book order - please have those completed by tomorrow.   You can order by going to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and entering our class code GMMD6.
*  If you know your child will not be at school on Nov. 21 or 22 (Thanksgiving week) please shoot me a quick email and let me know.  Thanks!!
*  Next Tuesday, 11/15, is our school-wide Day of Play.  Students should bring a home lunch on this day as we will eat in our classrooms.  We are still looking for volunteers.  If you are interested in helping please sign up at the following link:
